SA tourism needs new energy amid restrictions - expert

A tourism expert says South Africa needs to attract new international tourists and re-energise domestic tourism.
Unathi Henama's been commenting as we mark World Tourism Day.
"Our industry requires person to person contact. Our industry has not even gone back to pre Covid-29 times, so we have not even attracted 60 percent of what we have lost."
The theme this year is 'inclusive growth' after global tourism was shut down by coronavirus lockdowns across the world.
Henama's also weighed in on the UK's decision to keep our country on its Red List despite Covid-19 numbers having significantly dropped.
He says the move will hurt tourism and South Africa's economic prospects.
"The command council are definitely going to meet their counterparts from the UK and try and bring scientific evidence on why they put us on the red list.
"But I can definitely tell you there are no facts to justify South Africa being on the red list."
