SA shows lowest number of new infections since second wave hit

South Africa has recorded fewer than a 1 000 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the lowest since the country entered the second wave in December.

South Africa has recorded fewer than a 1 000 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the lowest since the country entered the second wave in December.

 

Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Monday, revealed that 792 new Covid-19 cases were recorded.

 

This brings the total number of cases in the country to 1 504 588.

 

 

A further 97 deaths were reported in the country with the Free State recording 30, the Western Cape 22 and Gauteng 15.

KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape have each reported 8 deaths, while the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga reported 7 new deaths each.

 

The total number of deaths in the country now stands at 49 150.

South Africa’s recovery rate has also increased to 93,9%.  

Meanwhile, the number of healthcare workers vaccinated has increased to 23 059.

The report by Mkhize says that was up to 6pm on Monday evening, revealing that just over 7 000 more frontline healthcare workers were inoculated with the Johnson & Johnson jab on Monday.
