SA should 'learn from Benedict Daswa'
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country should be inspired by the life of Benedict Daswa.
Ramaphosa made the comment during Daswa's beatification ceremony in Limpopo yesterday.
The Vatican has recognised Daswa as the Catholic Church's first martyr in the region.
He was killed by a group in 1990 for refusing to abandon his Catholic beliefs.
Ramaphosa said the honour placed on Daswa should inspire dialogue around ritual killings and witchcraft.
"May this also be a day when we, as South Africans, commit to building a society free of ignorance, intolerance and violence. May this be a day where we take out a leaf from the life of Daswa and say no to witchcraft and ritual killings," he said.
