SA records over 20 000 new Covid-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 21,427 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the country’s total identified cases to 2,112,336.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the increase represents a 30.3% positivity rate.
Gauteng is still the leading province, with 10,538 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.
The cases represent 49% of the country’s total infections, followed by the Western Cape with 13%, and Limpopo with 9%.

A further 411 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 63,039 to date.
The institute says an increase of 827 hospital admissions have been reported in the past 24 hours.
There are 15,450 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities for Covid-19 related illnesses.
