SA records nearly 20k new Covid-19 cases

A major spike in new Covid-19 cases has pushed our positivity rate up to 26.8 percent.

Over 19 800 infections were registered in the last 24-hour cycle, with Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape confirming big jumps in provincial figures.
Gauteng's picked up another 11 500 cases.
KZN and the Western Cape saw a rise in infections by almost 2 000.
"The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (59%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape (10% each). Mpumalanga accounted for 6%; North West accounted for 5%; Limpopo accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape and Free State each accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1%," the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said.
Thirty-six more people, diagnosed with the virus, have died.
The death toll now stands at 90 038.
