SA records lowest new COVID-19 infections since the second wave

South Africa has
recorded the lowest number of new COVID-19 infections since the
country went into its second wave in December.
Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Monday evening show that only 2 548 new Covid-19 infections were reported in 24 hours.
A total of 21 549 tests were conducted.
There were a total of 235 new deaths reported across the country.
The Western Cape has recorded 64 deaths, followed by the Eastern Cape at 59 and Gauteng at 51.

In the North West, 33 more people further succumbed to the virus while in the Free State 16 more fatalities were recorded.
Kwa-Zulu Natal recorded 10 more fatalities while the Northern Cape recorded 4.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country now stands at 44 399.
The recovery rate has also increased further to 89%.
