SA records highest recent daily COVID-19 figure

South Africa has recorded its highest daily number of coronavirus infection in over three months.

In the past 24 hours 4 236 new cases were reported along with 53 COVID-19 related deaths.
Gauteng, which entered a third wave over a week ago, recorded the highest number of new infections at 1 890, followed by the Northern Cape at 616.
KZN has the third lowest figure with 169 new cases. This brings the number of active cases nationally to just more than 39 000.
The country is going into the second week of Phase Two of the coronavirus vaccine rollout, currently targeting over 60s.
