The health care workers are being vaccinated as part of the Sisonke Protocol, a study that allows the government to roll out the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to health workers while awaiting approval from the South African Health Products Regulator.

Mkhize’s report shows that there were 125 more Covid-19 deaths, pushing South Africa’s death toll to 50 803.

“Free State 31, Gauteng 8, Kwa-Zulu Natal 7, Mpumalanga 5, North West 46, Northern Cape 18 and Western Cape 10.

We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Mkhize.
