SA records deadliest day since COVID-19 outbreak

The numbers of coronavirus-related deaths have climbed by 844 and new cases by almost 22 000 - in the latest 24 hour period.

The Health Ministry says the Eastern Cape reported the most fatalities at 452 - as a result of data reconciliation from May until November.
This brings the number of people who've lost their lives to 31 368.
Minister Zweli Mkhize says the country reached a grim milestone as new infections surged and breached the 20 000 mark.

More than 1 million 1 hundred thousand people have tested positive for coronavirus, so far.
Over 929 000 have recovered.
Active cases in KZN have increased to almost 77 000.
The death toll in the province has gone up to over 4 thousand 8 hundred.
