SA records another 500 Covid-related deaths

South Africa has recorded 523 new Covid-19- related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total fatalities to 71 431.
The latest statistics, released by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Thursday evening, reported 13 751 new Covid-19 cases.
The NICD says the increase represents a 24.6% positivity rate, with 55 923 tests conducted on Thursday.
So far, the country has a total of 2 422 151 laboratory-confirmed cases.
The Western Cape province recorded the most news cases, with 3 968, followed by Gauteng with 3 655 new cases.
There has been an increase of 598 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, a decrease from the previous day.
A total of 15 964 people are currently admitted in both private and public facilities.
On the vaccine front, 215 066 vaccines were administered on Thursday.
