SA records 566 new Covid-19 cases

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 566 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours.

This brings the country’s laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 926 914.
Gauteng again accounted for the majority of the new cases, with 332 new infections reported in the province.
A total of 35,327 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs throughout the country.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 1.6% positivity rate, which is higher compared to Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the positivity rate was at 0.9%.
The NICD says the seven-day moving average daily number of cases has increased.
An additional 11 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 89 515.
A total of 48 people were admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, with 3 597 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 132 316 vaccines were administered on Wednesday.
