The National Coronavirus Command Council will hold its first meeting of the new year today. It comes after the country's Covid-19-related death toll passed the 30 000 mark this week.
Government spokesperson, Phumla Williams, says an address by President Cyril Ramaphosa, won't automatically follow the council meeting.
"They will be convening at 9am. There is no plan of the president having a briefing because we don't even know what will be discussed in the meeting, so there is no information," she said.
