SA reaches another Covid-19 vaccination milestone

The total number of fully vaccinated adults in South Africa has reached 11 million mark.
Statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Tuesday evening, shown that a total of 11 036 021 adults of 18 years and older are now fully vaccinated against the deadly Covid-19 virus.
This is a representation of 27.73% of the country’s population.
The elderly, which is the age group of 60 years and older, account for 53.16% of fully vaccinated adults.
They are followed by the 50 -59-year-old cohort, which account for 45.71% of fully vaccinated persons.
Next is the age group 35 – 49, where 31.13% are fully vaccinated.
The country’s youth have had a low turn-out, with so far only 12.74% of those older than 18 fully vaccinated.
When it comes to the daily statistics on cases, there were 453 new Covid-19 infections in the 24 hours up to Tuesday evening.
A further 50 fatalities have been recorded, bringing the total number of deaths in the county to 88 674.
