SA reaches 200-thousand vaccination mark

More than 200 000 healthcare workers have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 across South Africa.

Statistics released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday evening, show that 207 808 health care workers have received the Johnson and Johnson jab as part of government’s Sisonke protocols.
A total of 1 048 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 - bringing the total number of coronavirus cases for South Africa to 1 540 009.
There have been a further 121 COVID-19 related deaths during the latest reporting period.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 52 372.
“Eastern Cape 4, Free State 38, Gauteng 24, Kwa-Zulu Natal 5, Limpopo 38, Mpumalanga 4, North West 0, Northern Cape 8 and Western Cape 0.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased,” says Mkhize.
The recovery rate stands at 95%.
