There had been conflicting reports about whether she'd turned herself in to police yesterday.

The Police Minister confirmed to journalists that Mugabe would appear in court.

Police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo explains where police are in their investigation.

"We are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm which was opened by Gabriella Engels on Monday night. During the preliminary investigations, we were contacted by the legal team of the suspect whom we have identified in this case. They tried to negotiate that the suspect hand herself over but that didn't materialise yesterday," he says.

Engels has accused the 52-year-old of hitting her over the head with an extension cord during an altercation at a hotel where Mugabe's two sons had been staying.

She says she was left with injuries to her forehead & the back of her head.

Naidoo says they're hoping to wrap up their investigation soon.

"We are hoping to finalise the investigation as soon as possible so that we can have the docket brought in front of a senior public prosecutor to get a decision on how to proceed further," he says.
