SA playwright in court for R8-million trust theft

Renowned actor and playwright Welcome Msomi has been remanded in custody following his courtappearance in Johannesburg yesterday, in connection with the theft of millions of rand from an arts and culture fund.

The 76-year-old is alleged to have stolen R8-million from the Department of Arts and Culture's Living Legends Legacy Trust Fund.
Msomi served as a trustee of the fund.
He was arrested in Durban at the weekend by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Unit.
Hawks spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha says Msomi is due back in court in two weeks' time.
