SA lockdown: Thousands of KZN homeless screened and off the streets
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Denis Hurley Centre says it screened nearly two thousand homeless people in Durban who are being temporarily accommodated throughout the city.
It's part of the lockdown aimed at disrupting the chain of COVID-19 infection.
People are expected to confine themselves to their homes and practice social distancing.
The centre's director Raymond Perrier says they're doing their best to house and protect everyone.

Those who are sick, elderly or disabled are housed in buildings, the rest are in camps around the city.
"Everyone has indoor and outdoor space and they are being fed regularly on-site in order to minimise the risk of cross-infection," said Perrier
He said the project has come with its challenges. "We set out over three days to manage 800 people, in the end, we provided shelter for 1,600 so twice the number than we expected.
Perrier said this meant an increase on marquees, toilets, showers, blankets, mattresses as well as scaling up the food programme.
