Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has relaxed the lockdown regulations for beneficiaries collecting their social grants this week.
Mbalula says between Monday to Friday grant collectors can use taxis or buses to take them to payout points - from 5am until 8pm.
"A number of industry bodies have made representations on the relaxation of hours public transport vehicles are allowed to operate. A similar request was made by the Minister of Social Development, Minister Lindiwe Zulu."
"Having considered Minister Zulu’s request and representations made by various industry bodies, including the taxi industry, I have decided to amend the Public Transport Directions in order to accommodate grant beneficiaries."

KZN's Social Development MECm Nonhlanhla Khoza says her department will pay a visit to pension payout points in Port Shepstone today.
"We will look at the manner in which pay points are handled. We want compliance with social distance and the washing of hands, either by soap and water or by sanitizers because we have disputed sanitizers to all places. We want that utilized to protect our grannies."
