With booze being sold again KZN is one of the provinces that will be targeted in the liquor industry's initiative to reduce the harms linked to alcohol.

The programme called Project Mpipa will help Community Policing Forums to step up their compliance monitoring.
It aims to reduce binge-drinking, drunk driving and walking, under-age drinking, and gender-based violence.
The two hotspots identified in the province are Inanda and Umlazi.
Speaking for the South African Liquor Industry, Clarence Sibiya says so far, 40 community patrollers affiliated with the CPF of the relevant hotspots have been engaged.
He says working with tavern owners, the patrollers will be responsible for seeing that opening hours from Monday to Thursday are strictly adhered to.

"This oversight will also extend to actively promoting no drinking and driving, they will also work to ensure the safety of intoxicated pedestrians, see that disorderly noise and other disturbance are controlled in liquor outlets.
A significant element of their work will be ensuring women are safe such as escorting them to home and in some cases paying visits to the homes of victims of gender based violence."
