SA Covid-19 cases dip below 1 000

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 809 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 to Sunday.
This brings the country’s total infections to 2 906 422.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 3.4% positivity rate.
An additional 27 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 87 780.
KwaZulu-Natal is leading, with 177 new infections recorded.
“The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (22%), followed by Western Cape (19%). Eastern Cape accounted for 16%; Gauteng Province accounted for 12%; Northern Cape accounted for 11%; Free State accounted for 9%; North West accounted for 7%; Mpumalanga accounted for 3%; and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” the NICD said in a statement.
There has been an increase of 30 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 6 268 people currently admitted for treatment.
Meanwhile, 52 556 Covid-19 vaccines doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
