SA Canegrowers ready to boost local market

The SA Canegrowers Association says it's ready to hit the road running as it enters phase one a plan to restore the local market.

The agricultural group's welcomed the signing of a landmark deal aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability. 

Government, sugar industry stakeholders, retailers and other social partners have all put their signatures on the agreement. 

The Association's Rex Talmage says it'll give emerging, small-scale farmers a boost and protect the livelihoods of a million people. 

Pongola, Umfolozi, Amatikulu and Umzimkhulu in KZN are set to benefit.

The SA Canegrowers Association says it's ready to hit the road running as it enters phase one a plan to restore the local market. 

The agricultural group's welcomed the signing of a landmark deal aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability. Government, sugar industry stakeholders, retailers and other social partners have all put their signatures on the agreement. 

The Association's Rex Talmage says it'll give emerging, small-scale farmers a boost and protect the livelihoods of a million people. Pongola, Umfolozi, Amatikulu and Umzimkhulu in KZN are set to benefit. 

He says this occasion marks an important milestone in our industry which has endured some serious challenges in recent years and that the plan symbolises a brand new chapter. 

"The commitment in the master plan particularly on the restoration of the local market in the strengthening of support to small-scale growers are critical to the longterm survival of the industry." 

"Our focus now is on the implementation of the plan, we look forward to working hand in hand with all the stakeholders involved," he adds.
