Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Law enforcement teams say they've pulled thousands of unroadworthy vehicles off the road since the start of the festive season.
The clampdown led to more than 1 800 vehicles being discontinued for major defects.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation says in KwaZulu Natal, over 140 (141) vehicles were discontinued.
Spokesperson Simon Zwane says they impounded 23 others. He urged motorists to carry out checks on their vehicles before setting off on their journeys.

"The owners of the vehicles will have to fix the problems identified and take their cars for roadworthy tests before they can go back on the road. The campaign will be intensified throughout the country.
RTMC has allocated a number of mobile testing stations in both municipality and provincial authorities to make it easy to identify cars that are unroadworthy."
