RTI beefs up Town Hill to Cato Ridge surveillance

Road Traffic Inspectorate officers will be on 24-hour standby from Town Hill to Cato Ridge monitoring the route infamous for road carnage.
Recently, a video went viral of a truck flying through traffic with what appeared to be smoking brakes down the hill at high speed before crashing into some cars.

The RTI's Zinhle Mngomezulu says incidents such as this one have led them to ensure they keep an eye on the roads.
However, she says this needs to be a shared responsibility with drivers.
"Throughout the country, drivers must take the responsibility to ensure that they are saving lives because that is the only strategy that we think will work."

"Even if you have law enforcement in a particular area, it means if you don't have the kind of law enforcement in other areas, drivers will do as they will. That is totally unacceptable."
