Rock-throwing tops agenda at eThekwini EXCO meeting

Rock throwing has come under the spotlight at eThekwini's first Executive Committee meeting for 2018.

The municipality says it's met with the provincial government and law enforcement agencies following a number reported incidents. 

Attacks from bridges have caused widespread panic in the Greater Durban region.

Two siblings were killed when a boulder was dropped onto the vehicle they were travelling in on the N2 near Tongaat, north of the city last month. 

Deputy mayor, Fawzia Peer says authorities will continue patrolling hotspot areas until final decisions are made.

"We have activated the joint operating centre. This means CCTV cameras are on for 24 hours. Metro police is manning it to see exactly which bridges are under contention at the moment. We have the metro police dog unit as well that patrols the place. We are maximising the monitoring," she says.
