Seventeen Sizakala and Human Capital Centres of Excellence were broken into recently.

Computers, network cables and hardware valued at R6 million were stolen.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the municipality has its hands tied when crimes like these occur.

He says locals who rely on these centres for job and business opportunities are affected.

"We strongly condemn these incidents as they frustrate our efforts to provide access to information to residents living in rural and township communities who use long distances to apply for jobs and business opportunities online.

"While a comprehensive security plan is being implemented to safeguard these assets, we appeal to members of the community who might have witnessed these incidents to share information with the police so that all those who are responsible for these criminal acts are brought to book."
