Cash-in-transit van bombed in Limpopo

An armoured Fidelity Security vehicle was targeted on the R71 between Tzaneen and Gravelotte early on Tuesday morning.

Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe has confirmed an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

Police say the R71 will be closed for the next four hours while police conduct an on-scene forensic investigation. 

A similar heist was reported in Lebowakgomo in Limpopo early in July. 

Eight suspects had been arrested. 

There's also been a spate of cash heists in Mpumalanga over the past month. 

A Fidelity Security bakkie had been targeted on the N4 between Matsulu and Kanyamazane on last Tuesday.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Gerald Sedibe told Jacaranda FM News: "It is alleged that some 10 suspects, who were driving in four vehicles, opened fire on the Fidelity Security armoured bakkie, which was coming from Malelane heading towards Nelspruit."

Sedibe says the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after they blasted the vehicle open using explosives.
