Traffic officials say they will be ramping up operations on the road as we approach Christmas.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation says officers will not tolerate any breaking of the rules of the road.
Spokesperson Simon Zwane has warned against reckless driving and urged motorists to help protect their lives and those of their passengers and other road users.
"We have analyzed all the closures that have taken place so far with stricter law enforcement as we approach the long weekend on all the roads enforcement tactics will be used, including roadblocks that will help us reduce the numbers of people who die on the road."
Meanwhile, traffic volumes picked up on the N3 on Monday morning.
The N3 Toll Concession recorded over 300 vehicles travelling on the north and southbound lanes at Tugela.
More than 500 vehicles have been seen making their way at the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
