Road Accident Fund likely to suffer R15 bn knock
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) says it may suffer a R15 billion revenue loss for the current financial year.
It says it owes claimants R17 billion - and it's blaming its current operating model for this.
RAF spokesperson, William Maphutha says they rely on the fuel levy fund - but fewer people are travelling because of the lockdown.
"We are impacted by the lockdown severely because we are reliably relying on the fuel levy grant. The lockdown has impacted.
"We see the system taking more than five years which is totally unacceptable. Now we are expecting and we are planning and that we should be able to settle claims within 120 days, " says Maphutha.
He says a new model will be in put in place over the next five years.
