RMTC probing 800 corruption case within Transport

The CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation says they are investigating over 800 corruption cases within the entities of the Transport Department.

Makhosini Msibi, along with Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and Special Investigating Unit Head Advocate Andy Mothibi have held a joint briefing in Pretoria on the findings of their probes.
Msibi explained what they have been looking into.
“Currently we are sitting with 820 cases that are being investigated, including amongst others the issue of the driver’s licences issued fraudulently.
“The issue of the learner licences fraudulently issued, the issue of the roadworthy certificates issued fraudulently, and the issue of the vehicle licensing that have been fraudulently issued as well as fees dumping.”
Msibi says some arrests have been made.
“Of the 820 cases we are seized with, we have made arrests together with the Hawks of 116 people that have been arrested.
“There are pending warrants that we are working very jointly with the Hawks and Asset Forfeiture Unit. I am not going to give details in relation to that. “
