In a statement the organisers say they spoke to several witnesses after hearing about what happened.
They say after the hostesses' shift ended at 10pm on Saturday some were taken to their accommodation, but others including Ndlovu, opted to stay behind and continue watching the event.
It's understood Ndlovu was later attacked by her assailant while walking back to their accommodation with the other women.
She had allegedly refused the man's advances. Her family positively identified her body this afternoon.
UKZN management says Ndlovu had studying been towards a Bachelor of Administration degree.
Both university and the event managers have extended their condolences to her family and friends.
