A partial solar eclipse, known as a ring eclipse, will be visible in South Africa this morning.

According to senior researcher at the South African National Space Agency, Dr Pieter Kotze, the eclipse will be visible at different times across the country.
He says that the eclipse will be visible at around 11:00 in the Johannesburg area.
"Why is it called a ring eclipse: The moon is at a distance of roughly 405 000 km from earth and at that distance it is not able to completely block out the sun," Kotze said.
Kotze also warned observers not to look directly into the sun with the naked eye as it could damage your eyes.
"The main thing is it won't be completely dark as this is only a partial eclipse thus only 50% of the sun would be blacked out," Kotze concluded.
