A northern KwaZulu-Natal man has begun serving a 10-year prison sentence for the rape of a 22-year-old woman.
Police say the woman, who knew her perpetrator, was attacked in Richards Bay in 2018.
Mduduzi Dumakude, 35, was sentenced this week.
KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says he was declared unfit to possess a firearm:
"A case of rape was opened at Richards Bay SAPS. The docket was transferred to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
"The accused was then placed under arrest after an intensive investigation.
"He made several court appearances until his sentence."
