From the beginning of January to the end of August last year, 688 animals were killed for their horns and 163 of them, were in KZN.
But the province showed the most dramatic dip this year.
Departmental spokesperson Albi Modise says his offices are excited about the latest statistics.
“The indications are that poaching activity across the country has been on a downward trend, with the overall national figure indicating that from January 1, 2018 to August 30, 2018 a total of 507 rhinos were poached for their horn with 83 of those in KZN,” he says.
