A R100 000 reward is being offered for information on the killers of the DA's chief whip in Umngeni Municipality.
Nhlalayenza Ndlovu was shot dead at his home in Howick on Tuesday night.
It's understood three gunmen who arrived at his property opened fire as soon as he opened the door.
Mayor Christopher Pappas announced the reward at a briefing a short while ago.
"Anyone with information that leads to a conviction can approach the office of the mayor, the office of the municipal manager or the office of the manager for public safety.

"The family provided preliminary details of the funeral service, but I will respect the family and wait for them to release this information. The municipality will hold a memorial service for councillor Ndlovu after consulting with his family and his details will be communicated."
Pappas says while the motive for the attack is not clear at this stage, there have been some concerns.
"I can also reveal that councillor Ndlovu had communicated to me late last week of a person he believed to be a threat, this information will be provided to the SAPS."
