Restaurant Association vows to challenge any Covid-19 ‘hotspot curfews’
The Restaurant Association of South Africa (RASA) has vowed to challenge any stricter curfews implemented by the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC).
This follows reports that the NCCC decided to impose a 10pm curfew in the country’s Covid-19 hotspots and to restrict the sale of alcohol from Monday to Thursday in an attempt to combat rising Covid-19 infections.
This would mean that restaurants will only be allowed to operate until 21:00.
Rasa CEO Wendy Albert says they will challenge any restriction imposed on the industry.

“We are certainly going to challenge any restriction that has been placed on the restaurant industry. We want all restaurants to let us know if any authority has been in touch with them in the last month advising them that there is Covid-19 in their establishment.”
The country is currently experiencing a resurgence in Covid-19 infections, especially in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has already said that his provincial government will propose a more localised Covid-19 intervention for the province at the meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday.
