Residents' help needed following Maritzburg school arson attack

The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department is urging residents of KwaMpumuza in Maritzburg to come forward with information about individuals committing crimes at local schools.

Three classrooms and an office at Nsika High School were set alight early yesterday morning during an attempted robbery.  

The principal's office - holding a strong room - was also broken into. Nothing was stolen.

Education's Muzi Mahlambi's described the incident as 'barbaric'.

"We are encouraging communities, especially those that do have information, to come forward. We want to just say to them - these are community properties that people are destroying on a daily basis."
