Residents call for trial in Durban teacher's case
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A crowd has gathered outside the Durban Magistrate's Court calling for a Sydenham teacher, accused of sending nude photos and videos to a pupil, to be denied bail.
The 33-year-old teacher is making his second appearance in court. He's been charged with sexual grooming and is no longer facing a statutory rape charge.
Some community members say they want the man behind bars.

"We want no bail and a trial to go through so we can all have an opportunity to speak, and bring our personal experiences and that of our kids onto a platform," one parent said.
"We want this to stop now and not affect any other person's child," another resident said.

KZN Education officials are working to establish if there are any other cases of schoolgirls who could have fallen victim to sexual grooming.
The suspect's family is also in court. They formed a prayer circle to pray for him.
