Reserve Bank keeps repo rate at 6.5%
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5%.
Governor Lesetja Kganyago says the country's economic growth forecast has deteriorated while outlook is constrained.
He says the MPC has noted the rising inflation - although it's still within target.
"Key uncertainties in the global environment remain. The continued strength of the US Dollar which has appreciated against most currencies. Any sustained elevation of oil prices, escalating trade and geopolitical developments could continue to pose risks to the inflation outlook.
"The Rand will remain sensitive to changes in global monetary policy settings and investor sentiment towards emerging markets," Kganyago said.
