Rescued flamingos: uShaka gets overwhelming response
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Association for Marine Biological Research says they've been overwhelmed by the responses from KwaZulu-Natal residents for volunteers to help care for the 250 Lesser Flamingos being rehabilitated at uShaka Sea World.
A colony of thousands of the birds were rescued at Kamfers Dam, a habitat that's becoming increasingly dry, just outside Kimberley.
The chicks were distributed to conservation centres across the country, including the Durban marine park.
Veterinarian and curator for Animal Health, Dr. Francois Lampen says they're receiving direction from the Environment and Nature Conservation Department.
The marine centre says they will be communicating with the public in due course should they need further assistance.
