Rescue teams search for man swept out at Umhlanga beach

Search and rescue teams were combing the beach at Umhlanga on Tuesday, where a man disappeared.

The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says emergency services were called out to a drowning in progress at about 8pm on Monday.

"On arrival on the scene, it was determined that three locals aged 29, 18 and 17 were in shallow surf when the 29-year-old man was swept away by strong rip currents.
"The male failed to exist the water and he is missing."
