James Summers Prinsloo was handed a 12-year prison sentence by the Durban Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, two months after his arrest.

He was previously convicted for rape and indecent assault, and sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Detectives started working on Prinsloo's case in April last year when a phone was found inside a taxi.

They checked the memory card and came across illicit images of children, some of them in school uniform.

They also found images of a man whom they identified as a suspect.

Investigators spent some time trying to track down Prinsloo in Durban.

They arrested him in November, after tracing him to the Esplanade.

The Provincial Serial and Electronic Crimes Investigation Unit also managed to track down some of the victims - who confirmed they had been sexually assaulted by Prinsloo.

KZN SAPS say Prinsloo will also have to answer to other charges in the Western Cape.
