Renowned businessman Don Mkhwanazi remembered in Durban

Family and friends who are at the Durban City Hall to pay tribute to Don Mkhwanazi have heard how the respected businessman displayed courage.

The 63-year-old Mkhwanazi died on Saturday. 


He was known for his contribution to transformation and black economic empowerment, having established the Black Management Forum in the 80s. 


Speaking at the service, current BMF President Mncane Mthunzi told mourners he remembers Mkhwanazi for his courage and fearlessness.


"He personified managerial leadership. The BMF believe that for you to be a good leader, you must be a good manager first. So good manager graduate with good leaders. 


"What was striking for me and why I admired him was his level of education. He is probably among the first people that I knew who went to Harvard and graduated there. 


"He had this unrelenting and unyielding pursuit for meritocracy and black excellence. At any given opportunity to speak to address us, he would talk about black excellence. He was a very proud man, dignified and commanding respect," he said. 


Mkhwanazi's survived by his two wives, five children and two grandchildren.
