Relief as SA revises visa rules

A Durban-based tourism body feels it might take some time for the sector to recover from previous visa regulations.

The comment follows government's announcement that people travelling to the country who live in countries where there are fewer or no diplomatic offices can apply for their visas by post. 


Furthermore, children entering South Africa are no longer required to carry an unabridged birth certificate although the department strongly recommends it. 


South African children entering and leaving the country will be required to carry it. 


Officials announced government's intention to relax the regulations last week. The National Accommodation Association of South Africa's Donovan Muirhead. 


"We just hope that they can implement and announce the date for implementation as soon as possible. So that everyone can be informed of those regulations and we can try and get some of the business back in time for the holiday season," he said.
