Relief packs donated to PMB community as lockdown enters day 8

Groceries, bars of soap and sanitisers have been delivered to families struggling to make ends meet - in Pietermaritzburg's Copesville area.

The Social Development MEC says the beneficiaries include those who have temporary jobs and child-headed households.
Nonhlanhla Khoza and Umsunduzi Mayor Mzi Thebolla handed out the parcels on Thursday.

Khoza says they've been assisting poor community members affected by the lockdown.
"Some of them cannot go out and have food, but along the way, we have identified that there are informal traders."
The government last night said that informal food sellers are now allowed to reopen their businesses.
A food truck owner's turned his business into a feeding station in Wentworth, south of Durban, for the lockdown.
Dominic Samuels has been delivering hot meals to the elderly, unemployed and disabled residents.
"So many people do odd jobs to feed their families - which is a daily or weekly income."
