Relatives of KZN family massacre: We are 'heartbroken and traumatised'

Shattered by grief, a KwaZulu-Natal family says they can't understand what drove someone or some people to gun down five of their loved ones.

Mvumo Msomi, his son, Dumisani and two daughters, Philisiwe and 11-year-old Celiwe were shot in Mpumalanga township, west of Durban. 


They had been watching TV in their home on Wednesday night when they came under attack.


Msomi's nephew Dumisani Ntuli and their neighbour Bongani Ndlovu were also killed.

Msomi's brother, Bonga says Mvumo was his mentor. He says he doesn't know who would want to harm their family.


"My bother was a very good man who liked to involve himself in traditional things. I have never remembered him once telling us about having enemies or so, but he was a very good man. We have all heartbroken and traumatised," he said.  


He says he has no idea why they were attacked. 


"I don't know what I can say. But we are hoping that the Minister of Police and other security sectors will work fast to arrest the killers," he said. 


Police say shots were fired through the window and door and that the motive for the killing still unknown. 


No arrests have been made yet.
