EThekwini Municipality says a group of people believed to be MK Veterans allegedly threatened the contractors collecting refuse.

They reportedly wanted to be included in the contract.

The Municipality says it is worked around the clock to resolve the situation and is still engaging with all affected stakeholders to ensure that residents are not inconvenienced going forward.

Some residents have meanwhile expressed anger at local councillors for failing to communicate with them on the issue.

Livingstone Mzobe from Umlazi’s AA section says it’s frustrating to have to live with 2-weeks’ worth of rubbish in his yard without any explanation from authorities.

"It has affected the whole community very hard because this is the second time in a year this is happening", he said.

"Officials are not informing people and people are getting sick because of the refuse. Dogs are even scattering the rubbish", Mzobe sad.

Meanwhile the municipality's Tozi Mthethwa says the municipality is asking locals to bare with them as services get underway.

"There is a backlog because it has been quite a few days that collection has not taken place", she said.

"We ask residence in the area to bare with us", Mthethwa said.
