Record number of runners expected at Comrades Marathon
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Organisers expect this year's edition of the Comrades Marathon to be the second biggest in its history.
Chairperson of the Comrades Marathon Association, Cheryl Winn says more than 21 000 athletes will line-up at the start in Pietermaritzburg.
The race ends at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the Durban beachfront for the first time.
With less than a week to go, Winn says runners should be focusing on maintaining their health and remaining injury free.
"The main thing that they need to do is make sure that they rest and keep themselves free of flue. Have a great day, relax and enjoy yourself. Make sure you have a plan - that's the main thing. Stick to your plan and everything should be fine," Winn said.
Thousands of people flock to the province for the race every year - providing the local economy a much-needed cash injection.
