Rebuilding infrastructure destroyed during protests will be costly: KwaDukuza Mayor
KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu says they might have to dip into the budget of the current financial year to rebuild and replace infrastructure that was damaged during protests.
Two weeks ago, a community hall in Driefontein was set alight during a community protest over a delayed housing project.
Yesterday three suspects appeared in the uMhlali Periodical Court charged with arson.
They they're expected back in that court on Tuesday.
Mthembu says the effects of such acts are felt beyond the affected area.
"The economy of the country is not [doing well] so therefore every citizen must behave [responsibly]. The community must not allow anybody to mislead them - to use community issues to advance their political agendas," he said.
