READ: Road closures for Sunday’s Amashova Durban Classic race

Motorists planning to travel in and around Durban on Sunday are being asked to avoid several roads as the Amashova Durban Classic race resumes.

The cycling event will have two new distances: the 38km and the 80km - with these routes being completely closed off to traffic. 


Organisers say this year's instalment will have completely different routes because of the roadworks on the N3 Between Durban and Pietermaritzburg and on the R103. 


It's the first road cycling event in KwaZulu-Natal since 2019, and the race organises say Covid-19 safety will be observed to ensure safety which will see cyclists wear masks are the beginning of the race; there'll be no post-race hospitality and no spectators on routes. 


Durban Metro Police says road closures will start from 4am. They have supplied the following road closures: 


80km start – 05:30 and finish 15:00 from Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (NMR)

Outside Moses Mabhida Stadium from 04:00 until 13:00

Bram Fisher closed from 04:30 until 12:00

David Webster from 04:30 until 12:00

N3 westbound from 04:30 until 12:00

Jan Smuts Highway westbound from 04:30 until 12:00

M13 East Bound from 45th Cutting to Hillcrest from 04:30 until 10:30

Shongweni/Kassier Road/M13 westbound to 45th Cutting - 05h00 to 11h30

N3 westbound to David Webster Street - 05:00 to 12:30

David Webster Street (Leopold Street) - 04:30 to 12:00

Masabalala Yengwa Ave (South Bound) - 04:30 to 12:00


38km Start – 08:00


It is on M13 under the Kassier Road bridge and runs along the M13 contra flow into Durban via N3 also contraflow.
