'Rape capital' Inanda among challenging areas in the country to police
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Measures are being taken to deal with the high crime rate in Inanda township, north of Durban.

This is according to eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda who held a virtual meeting with law enforcement officials and other stakeholders on ways to help fight crime in the area.
Crime stats released last month showed that Inanda recorded the most number of rape cases in the country for the second year in a row.
It is also in the top three for murder cases. Kaunda says the township has many challenges.
"I can attest to the fact that Inanda is one of the most difficult areas to police in our country", he said.
"The area is comprises informal settlements, rural and township communities with some areas having design challenges making it difficult for police to respond timeously", Kaunda said.
He says they're determined to make it a safer community.
"Our major concern is that even when police respond they are attacked by heavily armed criminals. We want to warn these criminals that their days are numbered", he said.
